Role Description: Nurture newcomer’s English and Canadian cultural understanding in a safe and welcoming environment by assisting ESL students with check-in, helping prep ESL classwork, or teaching ESL classes.
Skills, Attributes, Knowledge:
- A personal and growing relationship with Christ
- Welcoming, hospitable, and friendly demeanor towards newcomers to Canada
- Willingness to walk alongside newcomers with patience and care
- Command of the English language
- The ability to teach students of different ages and backgrounds
- Display patience and cultural awareness
- The ability to support others in crisis with a non-judgmental, empathetic response
- Experience working in culturally diverse setting a plus
- The ability to work independently and within a team environment
Time Commitment:
- 3-5 hours per class each week (this includes preparation and teaching time)
- At least 1 school-term (3-4 months)
